Final Jaguar Drawing and Hawaii Trip

Hello All!

Jaguar final imageHere is the final Jaguar drawing. He was a real challenge but I kept working on him even when I thought I was done at one point. One of the skill improvements in drawing is pushing yourself past your comfort zone and then realizing how much better your drawing can actually turn out.

I am still working with our publisher on my children’s coloring and activity book. Since it is 120 pages (!!) big, about double my other two coloring books, it is taking a little more time to finalize everything before publication. Looking at a couple of weeks before going public.

My husband and business partner, Mark, and I just spent 10 days in Kona, Hawaii. It was our first time visiting Hawaii. We stayed with a couple who are High School friends who moved there three years ago. What a stunning Island! They took us all over the island and I took lots of pictures adding them to my resources for future drawings. Going in August was facing 85 degrees heat and 85+ humidity. I do love the Pacific Northwest’s weather!!  Aloha.

Jaguar Drawing in Progress

Welcome all of you Big Cat Lovers.

Leopard drawing progressI am now working on to my second large cat drawing, a beautiful Jaguar. When it is completed I will add him to our Redbubble store. This is a fascinating challenge drawing six large cats in order to improve my skills as an artist.  As each drawing progresses I experience a feeling as if we are facing each other in real life. It can be a little bit unsettling looking into the eyes of these beauties as they stare back at you!

This is the reason I love drawing, when you can “get inside” of your drawing and create something that moves you in some way. I hope those who see my artwork can experience something that moves in them.

Must get back to drawing  . . . !

Blessings, Terrie D

Lion Drawing in Progress

Hello Wonderful Followers!

Lion Drawing progressionWell, I am finally off to publication with my new children’s coloring book Wild Things for Kids. This book will be over 100 pages and full of fun drawings and activities for kids of all ages. It will be available on Amazon over the next couple of weeks.

I am taking a sabbatical from creating coloring books for a couple of months and am focusing on an aggressive project of drawing large cats of the world. This will include drawings of tigers, lions, leopards and panthers.

I am posting the beginning of a lion drawing currently in progression. My husband said I always seem to start my drawings with the subject’s eyes. I explained to him the reason for this is if I can bring my subject to life through their eyes then it helps me bring life to the drawing. If there is no life in the eyes there is no life in the artwork and I cannot complete the drawing.

I would love for you to follow me in this challenging project and see how it turns out. The drawings will be available in prints at our Redbubble store soon.

Happy summer days!

Terrie D.

New Children’s Coloring Book

Word Puzzle sample with new book
I’m listening to Art Pepper, one of my favorite jazz artists, playing “Walkin” (Alternate Take 2) and trying to keep cool in the heat. Ahh… Blue Mitchell just came on playing “Park Avenue Petite” (Take 1). Getting in the mood to finalize publication of my most recent coloring book, Wild Things for Kids before moving on to a new book.

Here is a sample of one of my activities for the Wild Things for Kids coloring book. It is a “Find the Word” puzzle with words and images from my two earlier coloring books. I am excited to be adding 15 fun activities to this book.

We visited my 97 year old mother in Central Oregon this past weekend. She actually started coloring the elephant mama and baby picture in Wild Things of the World!! We had a great time together with my brother and sister and their spouses. Family is so important and a great inspiration for creating these wonderful ways to share time together. “Take Five” and share some special time with your family away from this crazy world of ours.

Blessings,

Terrie D.

Fishing in Summer

Boy in a Bottle FishingHere we are in the heat of summer! 90 degrees and above is way hot for me. My perfect temperature for summer is 75 degrees with a slight breeze. With no air conditioning we are using all of our fans to keep cool. But, this isn’t stopping me from working diligently on my new (third) coloring book titled Wild Things for Kids.

My second coloring book, Wild Things of the Oceans, Lakes and Streams, was published on Amazon on June 8th, almost exactly one year after my first coloring book, Wild Things of the World.

My Wild Things for Kids coloring book will be twice as big as the first two books and I am adding several activities including Crossword Puzzles, Mazes, Dot-to-Dot and Word Find, for a very fun coloring book for children from ages 6 years to 12 years, although anyone can have fun with this book! I hope to publish it on Amazon in early fall.

I relax and un-stress from the heat while having fun working on and coloring in my favorite coloring books. I hope you do too!

Have fun fishing!
